At this crazy time of year, life can get to be overwhelming with all of the work, family and friend obligations that come with the holiday season. Wait...did I just call them obligations?!?!?! As I sit in the Memphis airport and observe a military member who is flying home to see her baby girl for the first time in 9 months, I am reminded that it is a blessing just to have obligations to overwhelm us at this time of year.
Since we live in Colorado, a real Christmas Tree only seemed appropriate for us this year, so we spent the first weekend in December decorating for Christmas and putting up our real tree. We tried a tree lot, because we thought they'd have a good selection, but their sales guy was super creepy...he'd slink up right behind you and ask how it was going and then we'd see him staring at us through the tree branches as we milled around looking for a tree - it was very odd. Plus, their prices were pretty steep - I mean $175 for a Christmas Tree? Really? Maybe we are just clueless as to what they cost, but needless to say, we left without a tree! However, we did find one at our next step. After sending Jason out for 3 different tree stands (apparently we chose a very thick-trunked tree!), hoisting it over the fence outside and wedging it through the patio door, we finally had it up. We received a "Your First Christmas Together" ornament from my sister last year which got top billing on the tree. As we hung it on our tree, we shared a moment of awe in all that we accomplished since last Christmas.
So, as you finish your last minute preparations for the holiday season, we hope that you take a moment to appreciate your "obligations" this year!
Merry Christmas,
Jason & Abby Bryant
